Our Journey
ABOUT YEEPI
Our Story: A Backpack That Sparked a Movement
In 2009, Stanley and Linda Kongnetiman saw a need—and responded with compassion. What began as Operation Give-a-Bag (GaB) was a grassroots effort to collect and deliver backpacks filled with school supplies, clothing, and essential items to children and families in Suriname who could not afford them.

From pencils and notebooks to pajamas and stuffed animals, the Kongnetimans—along with a growing number of volunteers—assembled and shipped supplies that would eventually serve a pediatric wing at s’Lands Hospital, two orphanages, and three entire villages in Suriname. Donations even included stuffed animals from the Alberta Children’s Hospital and clothing contributions for both children and adults.

The success of Operation GaB was profound and unexpected. What began with two people and a single idea quickly revealed a greater need—and a greater opportunity to make a lasting impact.

From One Project to a Lifelong Mission
Motivated by the overwhelming response and tangible results of Operation GaB, Stanley and Linda formally established the YEEPI Education Foundation of Calgary in December 2010. The name “YEEPI” comes from Okanisi, a tribal language in Suriname, and means “to help” or “to assist.” That spirit of help, compassion, and dignity is at the core of everything we do.

Our Purpose
YEEPI exists to increase access to healthcare, education, and essential support for underserved and impoverished populations—starting in Suriname, with an eye toward broader global reach. Every initiative we undertake is rooted in community, respect, and the belief that sustainable impact begins with understanding and human connection.
We are more than an aid organization—we are a bridge between those who care and those who need care most.
